Over time, Apple stops releasing macOS updates for its oldest computers to avoid performance issues when the outdated hardware can’t keep up with the software. Is my Mac too old to update. If you can’t update your Mac, despite having plenty of free space to do so, it’s possible that your Mac is too old for this version of macOS.The recovery process is more involved than simply restoring from Time Machine. As for High Sierra, I am skipping that entirely after learning it’s too problematic to be useful for me.If you have an older Mac and you perform Time Machine (or other) backups, sometimes that diligence might not be enough to get your system back up and running to an expected working state. Yikes!Try out High Sierra for a week and you’d be begging for Snow Leopard back, haha I am only partially joking, a relative of mine has Snow Leopard on a 2009 MacBook Pro and it’s so much faster and resource conservative than my Sierra Mac. I managed to successfully install GNU/Linux along side my macOS High Sierra installation however, when I went back to reclaim the disk space used by GNU/Linux for my macOS install running APFS, I was met with a failed boot screen. And in my fiddling I managed to completely FUBAR my beloved and venerable 2010 MacBook Air. I'm far too much of a fiddler. To make disk space available, you can move files to another disk or an external storage device, then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk. Your computer’s startup disk may not have enough free disk space. After the last step and restarting it will still look like it can’t run, but when you do it asks to install additional updates and after that it works. If your Mac is running slowly, here are some potential causes you can check.
